A Deejay a day keeps the Doctor away?!

We do not grow old coz we party,
we grow old coz we stop partying

As if we needed actual written confirmation that Deejays are good for our health?!

Our hearts beat faster the minute they spin those decks, our body moves to the rhythm of the funky beat, our minds are cleansed from all our daily worries & we are transported to a complete state of euphoria!

But if you still need convincing then here it is in print......DJ Nutritious  ;)

Fantazia : A Midsummer Nights Dream

Twenty years ago James Perkins created a dance organisation which hosted raves up & down the country, when Breakbeat hardcore was on the rise, giving life to a new breed of ravers after the Acid House scene had ceased to be popular.

Fantazia's popularity grew & grew with 10,000 + guests at each event. Its largest ever was held at Donington Park on 25 July 1992, attracting 28,000 ravers!
In 1993 these large scale raves were to change due to licensing laws, & the company concentrated more on the recording side, releasing the very successful series 'The House Collection' mixed by top DJs such as Boy George, Jeremy Healy & the legendary Paul Oakenfold.

Let's fast forward to 2011 & Fantazia is still going strong, celebrating two decades of partying & the iconic music that has been born over these years.
Ahead of its 20 year celebration at Kings Hall, Stoke on Saturday 4th June, I have a quick chat with one of the DJs that will be playing there : Tony Clarke, who will be in the 'Future Legends Lounge' from around 10.30pm.

So Tony is this your first time playing at Fantazia? Yeah this is my 1st time to play at a Fantazia event..really can't wait for it!
How does it feel knowing you will be mixing at the same event as old skool legends such as Mickey Finn, Stu Allan & international Deejay Brandon Block? Mickey,Stu and Brandon WHO??? hahahahaha...I'm absolutely thrilled knowin that I'm playin alongside some of the biggest dj's in dance music..I'm hopin to steal their limelight lol...I hope not to clash with any of the big guns as I've quite a few people wantin to come see me play..hopefully I will be recordin my set \0/
What is the atmosphere there like? Well if the atmosphere is goin to be like the last Fantazia event ( 23rd April ) then we really are in for a very very fantastic night :-) :-)
In your opinion, what makes Fantazia so special? What makes Fantazia special is...I've found the atmosphere at past events I've been to awesome..the quality of the djs that play...stunning decor...and well the music of course lol
Can you tell us which is your all time favourite classic, & will you be playing it on the night? I have to chuckle at this last question as I showed my son the question and he told me not to reveal my all time classic as my sets a bit of a secret and will end with said tune lol lol soz bowt that lol!

Thank you for that little insight Tony. We wish you all the best for the night.....I'm sure you will raise the roof!

    Exclusive interview with Mitch Crown

Mitch Kroon was born 28th June 1974, on the Dutch island of Curacao in The Caribbean. Staying true to his Dutch roots, Mitch relocated to Holland where he now resides in Tilburg.
Mitch has grown up in a very musical environment, with his father, mother & uncles playing in a band named 'The Crowns', so it is no surprise how talented Mitch has become! Singer, song writer, producer, pianist, DJ....an all round Master of Ceremonies!
Working closely along side fellow countryman Fedde Le Grand, creating massive hits Let me be real, Scared of me, Rockin' High, & most recently Running, which stormed the Beatport
chart Top 10, & is on general release May 30th.

    • I would like to start by saying thank you to you Mitch for taking time to do this interview. You come from a family of talented musicians. Did your inspiration for music come from them, & apart from family, who else has been a big inspiration through your life?
MC: My inspiration originated just like you said from my family singin and jammin day and night on the piano. After that when I got older I really took a liking in Stevie Wonder & Donny Hathaway. But I have such a broad interest in music these days that it's hard to pinpoint.
    • You have such a beautiful voice. Were you blessed naturally with this talent or have you mastered the skill through singing lessons over the years?
MC: Wow thnx! I honestly never had singing lessons but my piano lessons did help get my tuning and tones right.
    • Out of all your skills, playing piano, singing, DJing, which do you feel gives you the closet connection with your fans?
MC: I think my singing: it's easier to connect with an performing singer as far as feedback wise than a dj I guess...
    • You have produced some amazing tracks with fellow Dutchman Fedde Le Grand. What do you think is the secret to this great partnership, & can we expect more collaborations from you both in the future?
MC: Good question: I wouldn't know if there's a secret to it but...the collab is definitely energetic and we connect musically. And yes there are plenty more tracks coming your way from Fedde and me so stay tuned :D
    • Imagine a world with no music (scary I know!) If this was never an option what career path do you think you would of taken?
MC: I think I'd be a dealer selling music in dark ally's....hahaha
    • And lastly, what piece of advice would you give to someone who wanted to start a career in music?
MC: First of all know your talent and your limits. If you know your weakest point you can work around it or make it your strongest. Be honest with yourself and most of all believe in yourself and you will make it.

Editors note: A massive thanks to Mitch for taking time to answer these questions, I know you have been busy with a video shoot so I wish you all the best with that & all future projects. And Happy Birthday wishes for the 28th...I share the same birthday as you ( all the best people were obviously born on that day ;)

    Love this cool track 'Crazy'....

    Exclusive interview with Nicky Romero

Born in 1989, Nicky Romero grew up in a small village called Amerongen, a province of Utrecht, Netherlands. From an early age, Nicky showed an interest in music. Joining a marching band at the age of six, Nicky played the snare drum & by the age of 12 bought his own drum kit. This was his passion for the next 3 years before he traded in the drums for turntables & the rest, as they say, is history.
Nicky has remixed top tracks such as Ian Carey ft. Michelle Shellers - Keep On Rising, Dirty South- Alamo, Sidney Samson & Tony Cha Cha - Get On The Floor & Fedde Le Grand ft Mitch Crown - Rockin' High, as well as releasing his own productions like My Friend which reached #4 in the Beatport overall chart, & #1 in the progressive chart.

His latest track Play 'N Stop is out now on Beatport.com.

    • Growing up in the Netherlands, with so many inspiring deejay greats around you : Fedde Le Grand, Laidback Luke, Tiesto, Armin VB, Sidney Samson (the list goes on), do you think seeing the success these guys had gave you more drive & ambition to get out there & make a name for yourself? And did you feel extra pressure because of their fame?
NR:  Pressure is not the best way to describe it I guess. The guys you name set the standard and the bar they set is very very high. It has always been hard to meet those guys at their level and I feel I am getting there gradually :). I am a very ambitious person and work really hard every day, a day not in the studio is a missed opportunity on its own!

    • As I write these questions I am listening to Pete Tong on BBC Radio One, celebrating two decades of music on his radio show! Do you look up to & aspire to be as legendary as someone like Pete? And how influential have British DJs been to you?
NR: That would be a bonus to reach a legendary status like that. Pete has the greatest respect in the scene and the biggest and most listened to show in the world. I take inspiration from all my colleagues in the scene!
    • You seem to have a really good relationship with Fedde Le Grand & did an awesome job of remixing his hit track 'Rockin High'. Do you see him as a mentor, & will there be anymore projects in the future from the two of you?
NR: Fedde helps me out a lot and gives me great advice, so yes I see him a sort of a mentor. We are in the studio together loads so keep an eye out for some exciting new stuff.
    • Social networks such as Twitter, Facebook & MySpace are a great way for fans to connect to your pages, to keep up with the latest news, tracks, videos, tour dates etc. How important are these sites to you & do you think they contribute in anyway to your success today?
NR: Yes big time! I love interacting with my fans closely. Twitter and Facebook are important vehicles that facilitate one on one communication in the best way, so they became important elements in my life and career : )
    • What is your favorite thing to do to relax when you get any spare time to yourself, & does it involve music?
NR: I own a very fast motorbike and tear the asphalt to pieces whenever I get a chance. I like to hang out with friends and of course listen to music too when I am not producing!
    • If you could give one piece of advice to someone who wanted to start out as a producer/deejay what would it be?
NR: Never say die, be persistant and don't cut your hair like Justin Bieber :) :)  (only kidding Justin big respect)

Editors note: I will never forgive you Romero for tainting my pure blog with the Bieber's name! ;D I will definately look forward to any more collabs you have with Fedde. Best of luck in all that you do, & you be careful on that bike! ( That's the mother in me coming out lol ;)

This is a favourite of mine - Nicky's remix of Usher's 'More' :-
